Desis of Doylestown would like to invite you to our 2nd Annual Eid-ul-Fitr Celebration at Newtown Middle School on April 30th 1-4pm
Council Rock recognized Eid-ul-Fitr as a school holiday in 2023-2024. Thanks to the hard work of Iman Azeez, a rising junior at Council Rock. Students who observe no longer have to choose between faith and education.
Interfaith inclusion helps students recognize other religions and gain respect and new knowledge.
On Sunday, April 30th all are welcome to enjoy the cultural aspects of Eid. There will be great food, live music and activities. This event is open to all ages, genders, races, identities and abilities and fun for kids.
Eid ul-Fitr is celebrated by Muslims worldwide as it marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan.
This year fasting begins on March 22. Eid-ul-Fitr (Feast of Breaking Fast) ends on April 21, 2023
Ramadan is a holy month of fasting, introspection, spiritual cleansing, prayer, and charity for Muslims. Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam, which includes zakat (charity), prayers, testament of faith, and Hajj (pilgrimage).
Four reasons why Muslims fast:
1. It was commanded by God. Primary purpose is to gain greater God-consciousness.
2. To increase one’s spirituality and strengthen one’s moral character.
3. To appreciate food and drink and develop empathy with those less fortunate than oneself.
4. To practice self-control.
While most people associate Ramadan with fasting, it is equally about the importance of giving back in your community. Giving always brins out the best in people, and Ramadan is welcomed reminder to remember those less fortunate and continue to give a helping hand to those in need throughout the year.
