The Saree Run is open to all ages, genders, races, identities and abilities. Participants are welcome to walk, run, or join us with strollers and wheelchairs. Registration is free. You do not need a saree to participate but if you would like a Saree, let us know in the registration form below, attend the Saree Auction on March 20th from 4-5pm
WHAT IS A SAREE? Saree, also called as ‘Sari’ may be a fashionable garment now, but it started from being a humble drape used by women thousand of years ago. The origin of the drape or garment similar to the sari can be traced back to the Indus Valley Civilization, which came into being 2800-1800 BC in north west India. Typically, the length is between 3.5 to 9 yards and can be worn in many ways that define its versatility and beauty. It is a symbol of the heritage, culture, identities of a Desi Women.
Proceeds from the run will go to these charities that support Women’s Education.
Go Laadli empowers young women to become problem solvers, leaders and change makers by investing in their education, providing leadership opportunities and by catalyzing change in social attitudes.
Shiksha Nidhi Merit Scholarship is designed for students in significant need of financial aid to complete their primary and secondary education. This scholarship will fund students who live in the district of Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, India. Currently an area that is not supported by international or national non profit organizations. Donations will support girls education from 6th-12th grade. *Donations will be provided once incorporated.
Shanti Bhavan breaks the cycle of poverty in India. Sponsorship gifts help to cover children's education, room and board and health/medical care for one year.
